The guest speaker for this event was the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs, the Honorable Thomas Hall. He said, All of the nominees are a credit to the military and the country. In the future, this generation will be known as the next greatest generation. Hall is also a retired two star Rear Admiral with almost 34 years of continuous active duty service in the U.S. Navy. This years winner is Information Systems Technician First Class (Surface Warfare/Air Warfare) Wade S. Howell, USN, Center for Information Dominance Corry Station.
Petty Officer First Class Howell is an accomplished leader, instructor, and mentor who sets the standard by which excellence is measured. He leads 12 staff volunteers of mentorship and positive role models for 22 residents of Corry Station Pensacola Boys Base. Additionally, he has dedicated many hours toward mentoring disadvantaged children through the Big Brothers and Big Sisters Club of America and is the lead volunteer of three staff mentors in the Escambia County Special Education and Agriculture Lab (ESEAL) program. Petty Officer Howell generates pride, leadership and motivation into his everyday life. He has taken that same persona out to the community in his involvements with the younger generation of Pensacola. He has provided over 4,000 hours of mentoring to the community, building an atmosphere of mutual respect. Petty Officer Howells character is a model of the finest quality, exemplifying Navy Core values. His strong character contributes to his success as a leader, team player and supporter in the command and through out the community in which he lives. His cumulative efforts have served to strengthen the positive linkage between the Navy and the surrounding community. Other nominees:
